NOIA Rising Star Award
Noia’s Rising Star Award recognizes the outstanding achievement made by an impressive individual who is 35 years old or under who has made remarkable strides in their role within the oil & gas industry in Newfoundland & Labrador. The star and its trail, rising out of the base is made of bronze, hand forged by sculptor Jim Maunder. It appears to be rising out of the ocean. This blue grey base is cut from 340 million year old ‘anhydrite’ collected SE of Stephenville. Anhydrite is precipitated on the seafloor when substantial evaporation occurs in restricted ocean basins under extremely hot & arid conditions. It is considered to be an important cap rock or ‘seal’ for hydrocarbons that occur in the thick, lower clastic sequences of the Bay St. George Carboniferous basin. The stone was cut by Meyer’s Minerals of Pasadena, Newfoundland.
